Companies exist to make money - startups to make a lot of money. But there are so many different ways to make that money and many sources to get that money from. Every startup has their own way and thinking about that is crucial in the beginning. It will most likely change multiple times during the life cycle of the company but you need to have a point to start. So our second week was all about business plan and utilizing business model canvas and value proposition canvas to get started.
On Monday teams met with Tuomas Wuoti, the CEO of Walkbase and alumnus of Boost Turku. In 20 minute 1on1 sessions Tuomas grilled the teams with questions about their business and gave insights based on his experience as an entrepreneur. Gaming teams got some special coaching from Jyri Partanen, a game industry veteran, who talked about the gaming business in Finland and globally and shared some insights into the elements of a billion dollar game. Jyri's talk (in Finnish) can be found on his Youtube channel.
Wednesday was workshop day. Timo Linnossuo hosted a fantastic Business Model Canvas workshop and truly made the teams to dig deep into their business and ideas and question themselves: "Do I really know why?" After an intensive workshop it was fantastic to see so many teams mentioning that they need to talk to their customers more and understand why they are buying or not buying. Before heading for a few days off to celebrate juhannus, we sat the teams down with Peter Fagerström to talk about their team, roles within the team and some practicalities and processes the teams have already set up.
