Startup Journey: Week 1 - Team

After the intense Boostcamp last week, we all decided to take Monday off to restore our energy and get ready for the first official week of the Startup Journey 2018. On Tuesday we continued with a great workshop on team dynamics organized by the academic researcher Pekka Stenholm. It perfectly fitted to the theme of the week, which was Team. We continued our educational journey by exploring the topic of legal issues that arise when launching a startup. Aleksi Lundén, lawyer at Lexia Attorneys Ltd, gave a keynote on this topic. He will visit us again in the future to spend some one-on-one time with the teams and help them with the legal aspects of their startups.

Thursdays are usually dedicated to two matters. First, it’s a metrics day. It means that Boost crew and couple of coaches check up on teams’ status and progress. Teams have a chance to celebrate their success or ask for help. This week we didn’t have any coaches visiting the metrics, so it was only the Boost crew – Liisa, Anssi and Julia – having small chats with the teams.

Testing Wintersky's game Proto - Worlds Apart

The second matter of the Thursdays is no doubt the best time of the week – weekly BBQ! From now on, it will be organized by new team each week. And they get to decide everything: what are we grilling, what are we listening to and how are we having fun. The gaming team Wintersky Entertainment, on the rights of being the largest team in the history of Startup Journey, got a chance to organize the first BBQ. And they didn’t let anyone down! All the right choices were made – burgers and beer were served, FIFA opening football match was on the big screen and video games were everywhere! As a bonus, Wintersky Entertainment offered everyone to play the demo version of their game Proto – Worlds Apart. It’s safe to say that the BBQ was an ultimate success.

Thursday's BBQ

To end the week on a great note, we invited Juha-Matti Santala, the former Community Manager at Boost, and a Startup Journey alumni Matti Tarmio to join and coach the pitching session. In addition, we recorded each pitch and shared them with teams, so that, first of all, they can see what works and what doesn’t. And secondly, teams can look back at it later and (hopefully) notice how far they’ve gone.

That was a great first full week of the Startup Journey 2018! We are very excited to see what is waiting for us. To feel more included in our Journey follow us on Instagram and Twitter. We share our experience there every day!
