We see a world where the only constant is change. Rapid urbanization is creating new requirements for transportation. The era of big privately owned Cadillacs is coming to an end. Big cities like Paris are under heavy traffic. These kind of cities with old infrastructure are in need of innovative solutions to gradually transfer them into the future.
Our first product is a folding electric tricycle. I had just started studying vehicle design in Lahti Institute of Design when my mother explained to me how she would enjoy using her Jopo. The only thing was that the bicycle was too unstable. Especially in winter it is impossible for her to use it. So we started looking for something with better stability. Naturally we ended up looking for tricycles. Ha ha, I thought - the loop was coming to an end. The first cycling and the last cycling would be with a tricycle. I have to reveal that my attitude towards tricycles changed when I tried the comfortable seating position for the first time. At that point I stopped developing the tricycle for my mother and started developing it for us.
Of course there is a big bunch of tricycles already in the market. In case you haven’t thought how much storage space a tricycle requires, I’ll tell you: It’s a lot. Now there is no way this kind of tricycle could fit her storage space. But hey, awesome news! Someone had already designed a folding tricycle. But when they are folded they have to be carried and they weigh over 20 kilograms.
So no. After a few years of marinating the idea, we came up with a solution. We call it Lahti tricycle. It folds into a shape of suitcase and like a suitcase it is easy to pull inside metros and trains. Of course it is also easy to store in a city apartment. With this product we want to bring mobility to everyone looking for comfort and wellness in personal transportation. It is pretty hipster to use muscles instead of combustion engine. Go green.
After the next prototype we will do a lot of testing. We will do a roadtrip to the biggest bicycle cities in Europe to see how Lahti tricycle will perform in different surroundings. Anyone interested in testing should contact lauri@korentobikes.com. We are also looking for a global distribution expert and a mechatronic engineer to help us with the next products.
