Startup Journey: Gloriana Games

I’m excited. It’s an early morning and I’m getting ready for the day. I look in the mirror and see myself: an entrepreneur, part of an amazing team and doing what I want. After a long period of inefficient life, unemployment and random gigs - how did I end up here?

I first met my team at a game developer training program. Over six months I learned a lot about game development, honed my designer skills and most importantly, got introduced to a bunch of enthusiastic people. So enthusiastic that nearing the end of the program we decided to make a game of our own.

Our team consists of four people. Me, a designer and baby swimming teacher who longed to be a character designer. Rebekka, an artist who kept us on course and in time as a producer, JP coded like no-one I’ve ever seen. Then there's Alix, an opera singer and game designer. She was the one who first asked if someone wanted to make a bigger, independent game project.

As many first game projects, it was a great exercise with mediocre end results. More importantly, someone told us to apply for the Boost Startup Journey so we’d have a bit more time to develop our game. We did, got in, and that’s when the journey of Gloriana Games started.

Currently we’re working on a game based on Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. The plan is to make a mobile game that respects the core nature of the book, keeping to Austen’s ironic and light-hearted style while exploring the deeper undercurrents in the story. We want to give the player a chance to experience the atmospheric, exciting and romantic scenes all over again and even try out new ways to proceed.

I hop on my bicycle and drive to work. The future is filled with potential and I can’t wait to continue the journey.
