BCar.fi - a connecting portal between car owners and drivers

“Everything is possible in life, if you just dare to believe with all your might that it is possible, it will end up being a reality”. -Eric Rimón, CEO of Bcar.fi

Our story begins in the winter of 2020. While moving apartment I noticed that in Finland there is no company that offers cars for short term rent and that the cooperative vehicle culture is almost non-existent. I also noticed the huge change between the capital of Finland, Helsinki and the life outside of it. To the infrastructure and transportation gaps and lots of other things that you can write on a separate post about.

The transition was difficult, oppressive and expensive. And finally I decided to rent a car from a rental company that cost me far too much per day and then I decided it was time to find a solution to this problem that many are facing today in Finland.

I also noticed another thing, many car owners do not use their car about 90% of the time and a lot of cars are parked in the city streets of Turku. Then I thought to myself, what if about only 1% of the parked cars were a part of a unique platform that connecting private car owners and private car renters, what would happen to the market then? I dared to think differently and out of the box and behold! I found a solution to a problem I had and also a way to make money and save a lot of money. All parties come out wide and satisfied.

But then came the questions! What if the vehicles would break down? What if the tenants will make an accident? What if the idea of car sharing turning into a one big headache? So I decided to do something that the business world likes to do, break down the problem into factors and find creative solutions. I decided to do this step through the Boost startup project. And I have found a lot of innovative, sophisticated and creative solutions to any problem that I could tough about.

We decided to conduct a deep investigation and understand better the behavior of car owners and renters in order to bring to the market the product that is best suited the Finnish market.

During the project I realized that I also needed to change my attitude. Get any feedback positive as well as negative because in fact any feedback can benefit me even if at that moment it does not seem so.

And I got a lot from this change of attitude, great lesson for life.

We are now just a moment before the launch of the trial version of the service in the area of Turku. We have information (Data) on quite a lot of vehicles that were interested in participating in the experimental stages as well as information on lots of experimenters and potential customers in the future. In the experimental phase we will focus mainly on understanding the product more in depth, making improvements and of course on feedbacks from all sides in order to enter the market with a great product.

We are constantly aiming for a quality product, accessible, cheap and available to everyone. Initially we will focus on the city of Turku with three vehicles as it is a small city with a transportation problem to remote places. During the trial period we will offer the service within 25 km from the city of Turku so that we can meet the challenges we will face in the best way. Our product comes with a local language support line and car insurance that is included in the price. Another goal is to increase public trust in our company by Offering a product with a good price and satisfactory service. After the initial investigation we now understand that car owners can be afraid to rent their own car so we want to tell both the car owner and the car renter that they are in good hands and that there is someone who cares if something happens.
